Gideon was living in fear, simply trying survive. His land was being occupied by his enemies while his people lived in caves. His enemies were eating the food that he and his people had planted while he was hiding a supply so it wouldn't be taken. His resolve was that God wasn't near and he needed to learn to live with what was left by his enemies. What Gideon believed was the end was really a whole new beginning.
We all can make the mistake of believing that we are our end when crisis comes. We can be convinced that the current situation is will never change.
